It’s Day 2 of the Cup of Excellence in beautiful Guatemala! Today we tasted 20 of the 39 coffees from yesterday that made it to the second round. Of those 20, 14 scored an average score above 85 meaning that they will make it to the next cupping round. Tomorrow we have to cup the other 19!
After a few hours of cupping, we had the chance to visit the Serben Dry Mill, a local mill about 30 miles outside of Guatemala City. At the mill, we had the opportunity to see were the dried coffee is processed, sorted, separated by grade (quality), classified and readied for export. It’s an absolutely amazing process. But now it’s time to head to dinner which we will be enjoying with the mill owners! According to them, we will be tasting some “Guatemalan delights”…but I’m not sure if I should be excited or scared!
