Our history with this single farm coffee goes back more than 20 years, when we first began purchasing the coffee from Marcelo Vieira, owner and farmer of Fazenda Lagoa. The relationship of the entire supply chain, from Marcelo and his cousin Adolfo, to Maria Dirceia and her team at SMC who export the coffee, to our friend Steve Bauer at Paragon on the importing side, has been strenghtened throughout the years as evidenced by the many examples of sacrifice by both sides for the benefit of the other at different times throughout the years. We consider this coffee and relationship one of our most precious, and look forward to many years of continued partnership. Because of the extremely high quality and consistency of the coffee from Fazenda Lagoa over the years, this cornertone coffee has allowed us to succeed in offering a high quality and consistent product to Kansas City. Through doing so, the relationship has had a significant impact on the families living on and around the farm who have benefited from the success of the relationship. In the early 2000’s, we were able to contribute to the development and support of a school for the families on the farm, and are currently contributing to the building of a recreation center on the farm where the 14 families of workers on the farm can have a place to call their own – complete with class rooms for arts, English classes, a library, and a gym. We’re honored to play a part in this supply chain and to be the ones who get to deliver this phenomenal coffee to our city.
